Must have self-care habits
Self-care looks different for everyone - but seriously these 3 are non-negotiable.
My first non-negotiable self-care habit is some form of mindfulness daily. That can look like meditation, a walk outside, a workout, cooking for yourself, journaling - whatever allows you to focus inward and take inventory of how you’re feeling and what you may need. We live in such a fast-paced world that it’s so easy to get to the end of the day and realize that you didn’t take one second to check in with yourself. In my opinion, the best time to do this is first thing in the morning. Before you pick up a cell phone or click on a social media app or start responding to emails, there is that blissful period where you have the chance to start the day by checking in with how you’re feeling and set an intention for the day. It makes the biggest difference when something comes up later on and you’re able to step back for a moment, remember how you intended to show up and respond to the situation as opposed to reacting off your first instinct. But even if first thing in the morning doesn’t happen, prioritizing at least one thing throughout the day that gives you the space to reflect inward will cause a ripple effect on all the other things you do.
2. My second daily non-negotiable is water first thing in the morning. This habit changed the game for me when it comes to digestion. The first thing I do when I wake up (after tongue scraping of course) is pour a massive glass of lemon water and drink about 20-24 oz. This starts my day off by rehydrating my cells, aiding in digestion, and flushing any toxins. I notice such an energy shift, almost like it brings my body back to life after rest lol. Adding lemon to your water has so many benefits including assisting with detox, aiding in nerve function, and also just making the water more enjoyable to drink in my opinion. I also drink my morning water at room temp or warm for digestive purposes.
3. My third non-negotiable is magnesium. I know, this has been preached over and over again recently but seriously if you haven’t hopped on this yet, you need to. Mostly all of us have magnesium deficiencies due to our food system and magnesium is so key for so many functions in the body. There are many different types of magnesium and they can have different effects. For example, magnesium citrate is commonly used for constipation and in lower doses can help you stay regular on a daily basis, magnesium L-threonate is an amazing tool for brain function and can help with stress and anxiety, magnesium glycinate helps facilitate relaxation, improves sleep, and so much more. Personally, I take all 3 of these forms of magnesium on a daily basis and it’s one supplement that I can actually feel the difference from days I take it to the days I forget. I take my magnesium about an hour or two after dinner when I’m winding down for the evening.
These are 3 things I consistently come back to day after day. Although they are simple, the benefits are so real. Don’t trust me, try it for yourself and report back!
